Black Men of Measure is a book project documenting the lives of Black men from the Baby Boomer generation 

(ages 61 to 79 in 2025)—men whose work, creativity, and civic engagement shaped not just their own families, but their communities and cities.

We're looking for participants whose lives reflect a blend of:  

Skilled Work & Technical Expertise

Careers that require both hands and mind—skilled trades, transit, engineering, mechanics, entrepreneurship, or similar fields. 

Union or professional affiliations are a plus.

Education

Formal learning—trade certification, college, or higher—that influenced their career or personal pursuits.

Civic Engagement

Active involvement in community, labor, mentorship, or social/religious organizations.

Creativity & Personal Pursuits

Art, music, photography, writing, gardening, or other forms of self-expression alongside career and community life.
